Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has criticized President William Ruto, claiming the Head of State has avoided visiting Trans-Nzoia County because there are no major development projects to showcase to residents.

The governor made the remarks while addressing supporters, where he accused the national government of neglecting the region.

Speaking during a public event, Natembeya said the President has little to present to the people of Trans-Nzoia in terms of completed or ongoing development projects.

He argued that residents have been waiting for major government investments that were promised during previous political campaigns.

According to him, the lack of visible progress has raised concerns among locals who expected improved infrastructure, job opportunities, and better public services.

Natembeya claimed that instead of focusing on development, the only reason the President might consider visiting the region would be related to political conflicts.

He suggested that his outspoken leadership and criticism of national government policies have made him a target of political pressure.

The governor alleged that attempts to silence him through intimidation and possible legal action are being used to weaken his influence.

The governor insisted that he will continue to speak about issues affecting residents regardless of political pressure.

He said his leadership is guided by the needs of the people who elected him and not by political convenience.

He stressed that leaders must be accountable and honest when development promises are not fulfilled.

Natembeya also accused the national government of sidelining Trans-Nzoia when distributing development resources.

He claimed that other regions have received more attention, leaving residents of his county feeling ignored.

He pointed out that the county has strong agricultural potential, which he believes could contribute significantly to the national economy if supported through proper infrastructure and government programs.

The governor further said that the region needs better road networks, support for farmers, and expansion of social services such as healthcare and education.

He argued that development in these areas would improve livelihoods and reduce poverty among residents.

He called on the national government to prioritize fairness when allocating resources across counties.

Natembeya’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions among political leaders and residents.

Supporters have praised him for speaking boldly about what they describe as neglect by the national government.

They argue that county leaders have a responsibility to demand equal development for their regions.

However, some leaders allied to the national government have dismissed the governor’s claims, arguing that several projects are underway in different parts of the county.

They accuse Natembeya of using political statements to gain public sympathy and strengthen his political position ahead of future elections.

Political observers note that the exchange reflects growing tension between some county governments and the national administration.

They say such disagreements often arise when local leaders feel that development expectations are not being met.
