Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisumu have arrested three suspects in connection with the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi at Java House West End Mall.

The suspects have been identified as Carlos Owiti, also known as Kalonje, 24, from Nyalenda; Eric Otieno, also known as Dude, 39, from Manyatta; and Vincent Odhiambo, also known as Tinga, 27, also from Nyalenda.

The three are currently in police custody and are being processed for arraignment in court.

According to investigators, the arrests mark a significant step in efforts to establish accountability following the incident, which has drawn widespread public attention and condemnation.

Authorities say the suspects were apprehended after preliminary findings linked them to the attack.

Detectives have since intensified investigations, with efforts underway to track down additional individuals believed to have been involved.

Officials indicated that more arrests are likely as the probe continues and more evidence is gathered.

The DCI has commended members of the public for their role in assisting with the investigations, noting that information shared by residents has been instrumental in identifying and locating suspects.

Authorities urged continued cooperation, emphasising the importance of community support in resolving criminal cases.

The attack on Osotsi has sparked concern among leaders and residents, with many calling for swift justice and enhanced security measures.

The incident has also raised questions about safety in public spaces, particularly in busy urban centres.

Police have assured the public that all those involved, whether directly or indirectly, will be pursued and brought before the courts.

Investigators are also working to establish the motive behind the attack, including whether it was orchestrated or carried out spontaneously.

Legal proceedings are expected to begin once the suspects are formally charged, with the court set to determine the next steps, including whether they will be granted bail or remain in custody as the case progresses.

The DCI reiterated its commitment to conducting thorough and impartial investigations, stating that all evidence will be carefully examined to ensure a fair process.

Officials added that updates will be provided as new developments emerge.
