The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) have welcomed dialogue aimed at addressing emerging differences under the broad-based government arrangement.

President William Ruto and ODM party leader Oburu Oginga led their respective steering committees in a meeting at State House Nairobi on Thursday.

The discussions focused on streamlining frameworks to strengthen collaboration and explore areas of mutual interest between the two parties.

The meeting comes amid growing attention on the working relationship between ODM and UDA within the current political arrangement.

Both sides signalled a willingness to engage in structured dialogue to resolve outstanding issues and enhance cooperation.

During the talks, the leaders agreed to continue holding engagements across party organs to build consensus on key priorities.

The aim is to develop a clear framework that will guide cooperation and lay the groundwork for a possible formal coalition arrangement.

They resolved to create a blueprint for what they described as a coalition of equals between the two parties.

The proposal is expected to outline shared goals, principles, and mechanisms for coordination in both legislative and executive functions.

“The two party leaders agreed to establish a Broad-Based Management Committee comprising the party leaders, selected Cabinet Ministers, and the Majority and Minority Leaders in Parliament,” read part of the statement issued after the meeting.

According to the statement, the committee will be tasked with coordinating the legislative and executive agenda of the government.

It is expected to play a central role in ensuring coherence, efficiency, and effective service delivery across government operations.

The formation of the committee signals an effort to formalise cooperation and address concerns that have emerged in recent months.

By bringing together key players from both sides, the parties aim to create a platform for continuous engagement and joint decision-making.

Both ODM and UDA said they are committed to supporting constructive dialogue and fostering a shared vision for national development.

They emphasised the importance of inclusive governance and the need to align their efforts in delivering on public priorities.

The meeting also highlighted the broader political significance of the engagement, as it reflects attempts to stabilise and strengthen the current governing arrangement.

Observers say the outcome of these discussions could shape the future direction of political alliances in the country.
