Ruto expressed concern that some players were taking advantage of challenges in the Middle East to create artificial problems within Kenya’s fuel supply chain.
He warned that such actions would not be allowed to continue, noting that the government is prepared to intervene to protect the country’s economic stability.
“We will deal with the cartels in the oil sector. Watu waone tuko na shida ya Middle East alafu wanajaribu kukoroga shida ingine hapa Kenya,” Ruto said.
The President emphasised that Kenya’s fuel supply system must remain stable and transparent, particularly at a time when global markets are experiencing uncertainty.
He said any attempt to disrupt supply or inflate prices for personal gain would be met with firm action.
Ruto noted that the government has put in place mechanisms to monitor fuel imports, distribution and pricing, adding that relevant agencies are working together to ensure compliance across the sector.
He said the focus is on safeguarding consumers and ensuring that the country does not face unnecessary shortages or price spikes.
He further stated that the government is committed to maintaining order within the energy sector, which plays a critical role in the country’s economy.
According to the President, any form of market manipulation undermines national interests and places an undue burden on ordinary citizens.
The remarks come amid increased scrutiny of the petroleum industry following recent developments involving fuel imports and concerns over quality and procurement processes.
Authorities have already taken action against several individuals as part of ongoing investigations.
Ruto said the crackdown on cartels is part of a broader effort to restore accountability and discipline within key sectors of the economy.
He reiterated that no one will be spared, regardless of their position or influence.
