The residents also took issue with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, urging him to respect Governor Lati and refrain from what they described as public attacks.
Many of the protesters said they felt disrespected as constituents, arguing that any affront directed at their governor was equally an affront to the people of Samburu.
“We will not allow anyone to insult or undermine our governor. He represents us, and we stand with him,” one protester said.
Another resident said the incident had angered many in the county, noting that leaders should demonstrate maturity and professionalism, especially when handling disagreements in public.
The demonstrations remained peaceful, with participants moving through designated areas under the watch of security officers who had been deployed to maintain order.
Local leaders who addressed the crowd urged residents to remain calm and avoid any actions that could escalate tensions.
Community elders also joined the protests, calling for unity and dialogue between the leaders involved.
They stressed that while disagreements are part of leadership, they should be addressed respectfully and through proper channels.
“We respect all leaders, but respect must be mutual. What happened is not acceptable, and we want it to be addressed,” an elder said.
The incident involving Governor Lati has stirred broader debate about the relationship between county governments and national leaders.
Residents said such confrontations risk undermining public confidence in leadership and shifting focus away from development issues that directly affect citizens.
As the protests continued, calls grew for a clear explanation and possible reconciliation between the parties involved.
Many residents expressed hope that the matter would be resolved quickly so that leaders can concentrate on delivering services and improving livelihoods.
