Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has officially stepped aside from the matter involving Marion Naipei and James Opande following intense public scrutiny and growing online backlash.

His decision comes amid heated debate on social media and concerns from members of the public about his involvement in the issue.

In an official statement released on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Mosiria said his actions were guided by procedure and his responsibility as a public servant.

He stressed that his role was never personal, but part of his duty to listen to citizens and respond to their concerns within the law.

“The people of Nairobi have spoken, and as a leader, I listen. Leadership demands clarity, courage, and accountability to those we serve. I wish to address recent concerns directly and factually,” Mosiria said in his statement.

He explained that his office receives many calls and complaints every day from residents seeking help, justice, or protection.

According to Mosiria, listening to citizens is a key part of building a responsive and caring county government.

“In my official capacity, I receive numerous calls and complaints daily from citizens seeking assistance, justice, or protection.

It is the duty of a responsive government to listen and act in accordance with the law,” he said.

Mosiria revealed that on January 16, 2026, a woman approached his office asking for help in her pursuit of justice.

He said his involvement in the matter began at that point and was limited to ensuring that the proper channels were followed.

He maintained that he did not act outside his mandate or interfere with any legal process.

However, as public debate around the case intensified, Mosiria said he decided to step aside to allow relevant institutions to handle the matter independently.

He noted that the growing attention risked shifting focus away from the real issues and could undermine public confidence in the process.

By stepping aside, Mosiria said he hopes to protect the integrity of his office and ensure that justice is pursued without distraction or perceived influence.

He added that his decision should not be seen as an admission of wrongdoing, but as an act of responsibility and respect for public opinion.
