Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a weather update warning that several parts of the country are likely to receive rainfall on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

The department said that although most areas in Kenya are currently experiencing dry and sunny weather, some regions should expect showers.

In a weather notice shared on its official X platform on Saturday, February 7, 2026, KMD stated that rainfall is expected in a few locations within specific regions.

The department noted that the Central Highlands, including Nairobi, the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley are likely to experience rain.

According to the department, the rainfall will not cover all areas in these regions but will occur in selected locations.

Weather experts explained that such patterns are common during this period when most parts of the country are under dry and sunny conditions, but occasional showers still develop in certain areas.

The weather update is part of KMD’s weekly outlook for early February 2026. The department has observed that the general weather pattern across Kenya remains mostly dry and sunny.

However, some regions continue to experience isolated rainfall as weather conditions change gradually during the month.

KMD indicated that counties within Western Kenya and the Lake Victoria Basin are among those expected to receive rainfall as the week progresses.

These areas include Kakamega, Kisumu, Bungoma, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Homabay, and Bomet.

Other counties likely to experience rainfall include Nandi, Kericho, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Trans-Nzoia, Narok, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and Baringo.

The department explained that residents living in these regions should remain prepared for sudden changes in weather, especially during the afternoon or evening hours when rainfall is more likely to occur.

Farmers in these areas have also been advised to monitor weather updates closely to help them plan their agricultural activities.

Meanwhile, the Central Highlands east of the Rift Valley are expected to remain largely sunny, although some areas may experience light showers.

Counties in this region include Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Kiambu, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, Nyandarua, and the capital city, Nairobi.

KMD said that residents in these areas should expect warm daytime temperatures accompanied by sunny intervals.

However, occasional light rain may still occur in a few places, particularly in the late afternoon or evening.

Weather experts continue to encourage members of the public to stay informed by following official updates from the meteorological department.

They noted that weather conditions can change quickly and accurate forecasts help people prepare for such changes, especially those involved in farming, transport, and outdoor activities.
