The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of three people suspected of being involved in criminal activities in the Coast region.

In a statement shared on its social media platforms, the DCI said the arrests were made during an ongoing security operation targeting criminal gangs that have been causing fear and insecurity in parts of the region.

The agency described the arrests as a major step forward in efforts to restore safety.

According to the statement, two of the suspects were arrested in Kwale County.

They are believed to be linked to a notorious gang known as the Panga Boys, which has been associated with violent robberies and attacks in the area. The third suspect was arrested separately in Kilifi County.

“The ongoing security operation aimed at dismantling criminal gangs in the Coast Region has achieved yet another significant breakthrough with the arrest of three more notorious suspects,” the DCI said.

Detectives acted on what they described as credible intelligence. Officers conducted a raid at a residence in the Denyenye area of Kwale, where they found and arrested the two suspects said to be connected to the Panga Boys gang.

Authorities did not disclose whether any weapons or other items were recovered during the operation, but investigations are ongoing.

The arrest in Kilifi was carried out as part of the same security sweep.

Officers believe the third suspect may have been working closely with other criminal groups operating within the Coast region.

He is currently in custody as detectives continue with questioning and evidence gathering.

Security agencies have in recent weeks intensified operations in the Coast region following reports of increased gang activity.

Residents in some areas have raised concerns about attacks, especially during the night, and have called on the government to act firmly against those responsible.

The DCI assured members of the public that the crackdown will continue until all criminal networks are dismantled.

The agency urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement officers by sharing information that could help in the fight against crime.

Officials say community support has played a key role in recent successes. By reporting suspicious activities, locals have helped police track down individuals believed to be behind various crimes.
