Acting Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Catharine Omanyo, has officially declared her interest in becoming the party’s substantive Secretary General.

Speaking with confidence and calm determination, Omanyo said she believes the time has come for her to take up the role fully, having already served in an acting capacity for three and a half years.

Omanyo pointed to her experience within the party as her main strength. She said that during the period she has been acting SG, she has gained a deep understanding of how the party operates at both the national and grassroots levels.

According to her, the job has not been easy, but it has prepared her well for the responsibilities ahead.

“I have stood with the party through thick and thin,” she said. “I understand its values, its struggles, and its dreams for the people of Kenya.”

She noted that loyalty to ODM has guided her leadership. Over the years, she explained, she has remained committed to the party’s ideals and has worked closely with leaders, members, and supporters across the country.

She believes that consistency and dedication are important qualities for anyone seeking such a senior position.

During her time as acting SG, Omanyo said she focused on strengthening internal structures and improving coordination among party officials.

She added that she has been part of key decisions and planning meetings that have shaped the direction of the party.

This, she believes, gives her an advantage because she does not need time to learn the ropes.

Omanyo also spoke about unity within ODM. She emphasized that the party must remain strong and united as it prepares for future political contests.

According to her, leadership should not divide members but instead bring them together under one vision.

She further promised to promote transparency and accountability if elected as the full Secretary General.

She said members deserve clear communication and proper management of party affairs. “The Secretary General’s office must be open and responsive,” she stated.

Her declaration now sets the stage for what could be a competitive race within the party.

Supporters who have worked with her describe her as firm but approachable, saying she listens before making decisions.

Others see her bid as a continuation of the work she has already been doing behind the scenes.
