The youth leaders said they respect Oburu and acknowledge his experience in national politics.
However, they urged him to ensure that young people are not sidelined in conversations that may affect the party’s direction.
According to them, the youth wing has been active in mobilising support for ODM during elections and public engagements, and therefore deserves a voice at the negotiation table.
They expressed concern that agreements made without wider consultation could create confusion at the grassroots level.
Some youth members said they have been receiving questions from supporters who want clarity about the nature of the cooperation between ODM and UDA.
Without proper information, they argued, it becomes difficult to defend or explain the party’s position on the ground.
The group also emphasised that young people bring fresh ideas and energy to political discussions.
They believe their participation would strengthen the party rather than weaken it. By being involved early, they said, they would feel a sense of ownership over any decisions reached.
At the same time, the youth urged party leaders to maintain transparency and unity. They cautioned against secretive negotiations that could divide members.
According to them, open communication would help prevent misunderstandings and rumours.
