Former Cabinet Assistant Secretary David Osiany has called on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to scrap the rival Linda Ground and Linda Mwananchi factions and instead rally behind a single banner he termed “Linda Chama.”

Speaking during an interview on SPM Buzz on Friday, February 28, 2026, Osiany said the growing divisions within the party risk weakening it at a critical time.

He argued that both camps claim to defend the legacy of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, yet their rivalry is pulling the party in opposite directions.

According to Osiany, the best way forward is not to compete over slogans but to unite under one clear message focused on protecting the party itself.

He said “Linda Chama,” loosely meaning “protect the party,” would help shift attention from personal battles to collective responsibility.

He noted that the disagreements within ODM are rooted in genuine concerns. Each side, he said, believes it is safeguarding what the party has stood for over the years.

However, he warned that endless public quarrels only create confusion among supporters and give opponents room to exploit the cracks.

Osiany stressed that any common stand must be guided by the party’s founding principles. He said ODM was built on strong values, clear ideals, and a distinct political identity.

In his view, those core beliefs should act as a compass during moments of uncertainty.

“The party has a DNA,” he explained during the interview, adding that leaders should return to those basics instead of allowing temporary differences to define its future.

He further observed that ODM now appears to be pulled in different directions, with leaders aligning themselves based on loyalty to factions rather than shared vision.

If this trend continues, he cautioned, the party risks losing focus and alienating its grassroots base.

Osiany also reflected on the leadership style of Raila Odinga, saying the veteran politician believed in a generational mix.

He pointed out that under Raila’s leadership, both young and experienced politicians were given opportunities to serve in key positions within the party.

According to him, this balance helped ODM remain vibrant and relevant across different age groups.

He urged current leaders to embrace that same spirit by creating space for dialogue between the old guard and emerging voices.

Osiany maintained that unity does not mean ignoring differences but handling them internally with respect and maturity.

He encouraged party members to prioritise the bigger picture, reminding them that ODM’s strength has always come from its ability to stand together during difficult times.
