Detectives are searching for a police officer attached to Busia County who is wanted over the suspected killing of his estranged wife in Bomet County.

According to Bomet County Criminal Investigations Officer Emmanuel Ogao, the officer is believed to have lured the woman to a hotel in Silibwet Trading Centre after convincing her that he wanted them to reconcile.

Investigators say he booked a room for the meeting and later allegedly strangled her before fleeing the scene.

The woman’s body was found inside the hotel room after police received information about the incident.

Officers rushed to the scene and began investigations as efforts to trace the suspect intensified.

Police reports indicate that after the incident, the officer is said to have contacted some of his relatives and informed them about what had happened.

The relatives are believed to have raised the alarm, prompting authorities to respond quickly.

By the time officers arrived at the hotel, the suspect had already disappeared.

The deceased has been identified as a Junior Secondary School teacher from the Olenguruone area in Nakuru County.

Sources close to the family said she had been staying with her parents in Bomet after leaving her matrimonial home.

It is reported that she had walked out of the marriage due to what family members described as a toxic and troubled relationship.

Those who knew her described her as hardworking and committed to her teaching career. Her sudden death has left family, friends, and colleagues in shock.

Residents in Silibwet Trading Centre also expressed fear and concern over the incident, saying such cases are rare in the area.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Officers are working with colleagues in Busia and other counties to track him down.

Investigators say they are piecing together events leading up to the woman’s death, including reviewing hotel records and speaking to witnesses.

The body was moved to a local mortuary as detectives continue with inquiries. An autopsy is expected to be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death.

Police have assured the public that no effort will be spared in bringing the suspect to justice.

They have also urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
