Phone and SIM Card Allegedly Linked to MP Found at Chepkieb Helicopter Crash Site

Investigators combing through the wreckage of the helicopter that crashed in Chepkieb, Mosop Sub-County, Nandi County, have recovered a mobile phone and SIM card believed to belong to Emurwa Dikir Member of Parliament Johana Ng'eno.

The aircraft went down in a thick forested area, leaving behind a scene of destruction and raising fears over the fate of those who were on board. 

Authorities confirmed that casualties were reported, though they have not yet released the exact number of victims as identification efforts continue.

According to officials at the scene, the phone and SIM card were found among the debris after emergency teams managed to contain the fire that had engulfed the helicopter.

The discovery is expected to assist investigators in confirming who was on board at the time of the crash.

In addition to the items linked to the MP, authorities also recovered devices believed to belong to Amos Kipngetich Rotich, an officer attached to the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).

Officials said the devices will undergo forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

The identities of four other individuals who were reportedly on board have not yet been confirmed.

Police said the process of identifying the victims is complex due to the extent of damage caused by the impact and the fire that followed.

Forensic experts are working carefully to ensure accurate identification before any public announcement is made.

Residents near Chepkieb said they heard a loud bang before seeing smoke rise from the forest.

Some rushed toward the area but were forced to keep their distance because of the intense flames and thick bushes surrounding the crash site.

Security officers later sealed off the area to allow investigators to carry out their work without interference.

County police officials said the focus now is on establishing what caused the crash.

Aviation experts are expected to inspect the wreckage, review flight records, and examine any available communication data.
