Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has said that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will remain strong and united despite internal disagreements, suggesting that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna may eventually leave the party if he continues to feel conflicted about its direction.

Mbadi insisted that ODM is bigger than any individual and has strong structures that can keep it stable even when some members choose to move on.

Speaking about the growing tensions within the party, Mbadi said Sifuna appears uncomfortable with some of ODM’s recent political decisions, especially its cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration.

He explained that political parties often experience differences of opinion, but leaders must decide whether they can continue working together despite those differences.

Mbadi stated that Sifuna is free to make his own political choices, including leaving the party with supporters who share his views.

However, he expressed confidence that ODM will remain cohesive regardless of such decisions.

According to him, ODM has survived major political challenges in the past and has built strong leadership systems that can maintain unity within the party.

The Cabinet Secretary emphasised that ODM’s current focus is on strengthening cooperation with the national government.

He confirmed that the party plans to continue working with President Ruto’s administration until 2027 and possibly beyond.

Mbadi said the cooperation is not about abandoning political identity but about ensuring that development programmes reach Kenyans without unnecessary political conflict.

He explained that working together with the government allows ODM leaders to push for projects that benefit ordinary citizens, including improvements in infrastructure, economic opportunities, and social services.

Mbadi argued that political rivalry should not prevent leaders from collaborating when national interests are involved.

He maintained that ODM believes cooperation can create stability and encourage faster development across the country.

Mbadi also dismissed claims that internal disagreements are weakening ODM. He said disagreements are normal in political parties and can sometimes help leaders improve their strategies.

He stressed that ODM remains committed to handling internal disputes through dialogue and consultations among party members.

According to him, the party’s unity is based on shared goals and values that go beyond individual political positions.

While addressing Sifuna’s situation, Mbadi noted that leadership requires balancing personal opinions with collective party decisions.

He said ODM respects the right of its members to express different views but expects leaders to support decisions agreed upon by the party.

Mbadi added that ODM remains open to discussions with any member who feels dissatisfied with its current direction.

Political observers believe Mbadi’s remarks reflect ongoing debates within ODM about its future strategy and political partnerships.

Some analysts see the party’s cooperation with the government as a move to strengthen its influence and ensure development resources reach its strongholds.

Others believe the decision could create internal divisions among leaders who prefer the party to maintain a stronger opposition role.
