She claimed that there have been reports suggesting that money meant for development programs is being diverted to support individuals who disrupt political gatherings and intimidate leaders with opposing views.
“Stop misusing Kakamega county funds by hiring goons,” Muhanda said, insisting that public resources should only be used for projects that improve the lives of residents.
She emphasised that Kakamega people deserve better services such as improved healthcare, infrastructure, education, and youth empowerment programs.
The Woman Representative argued that political differences should be resolved through dialogue and leadership, not through actions that create fear or division among residents.
She said elected leaders have a duty to promote peace and unity while focusing on development priorities that directly benefit citizens.
Muhanda further warned that misuse of public funds weakens public trust in leadership and slows development progress.
She called on oversight institutions to investigate any claims of financial mismanagement within the county government.
According to her, transparency and accountability are essential in ensuring taxpayers’ money is used correctly.
The remarks come amid increasing political competition within Kakamega County, where leaders have been engaging in public debates over governance and development performance.
Political observers say such disagreements are common, especially as leaders position themselves ahead of future elections.
However, analysts also note that public accusations of misuse of funds can increase political tension if not handled carefully.
Governor Barasa has not publicly responded to Muhanda’s allegations at the time of the statement.
However, sources within the county government have previously maintained that the administration is focused on delivering development projects and improving services for residents.
