Political activist Oketch Salah has strongly criticised Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over reports that he may resign if the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) officially works with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Salah described the alleged threat as hypocritical, arguing that Sifuna was part of earlier discussions that led to the creation of the UDA–ODM 10-point agenda.

Speaking during a public forum, Salah questioned why Sifuna would oppose a process he is said to have supported from the beginning.

According to Salah, leaders should remain consistent and honest about their positions, especially when dealing with agreements that affect national politics.

Salah claimed that the 10-point agenda between ODM and UDA was designed to promote cooperation and address serious issues affecting Kenyans.

He said the discussions were meant to reduce political tension, improve governance, and create a working relationship that would benefit the country.

He argued that it is unfair for Sifuna to now distance himself from the process when it is gaining attention.

The activist stated that political leaders must take responsibility for decisions they helped shape.

He said threatening to resign sends the wrong message to party supporters and creates unnecessary divisions within ODM.

Salah insisted that such public statements may weaken trust among party members and supporters.

Reports have indicated that Sifuna is uncomfortable with the possibility of ODM formally aligning with UDA.

The senator is believed to have expressed concerns that such cooperation could weaken the opposition and make it harder to hold the government accountable.

He is also said to have warned that he may step down if the party chooses to fully cooperate with the ruling side.

However, Salah dismissed those concerns, saying political cooperation does not mean losing independence.

He explained that different political groups can work together on national matters while still maintaining their identities and responsibilities.

According to Salah, the main focus should be on solving problems facing ordinary citizens rather than protecting political positions.

Salah also urged ODM leaders to handle disagreements internally instead of making public threats. He said internal conflicts can damage the party’s image and reduce public confidence.

He added that ODM has built its reputation over many years as a party that stands for the interests of the people, and its leaders should work hard to protect that legacy.

Political analysts believe the disagreement reflects wider debates within ODM about its future direction.

Some members support cooperation with the government, saying it can help push important reforms and promote unity.

Others believe the party should remain firm in its opposition role to ensure proper oversight and accountability.
