The group is being led by ODM Deputy Party Leader and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, Youth Affairs and Creative Economy Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs, and Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo.
According to them, the Coast region is firmly behind Joho and ready to back his bid if the opportunity arises.
Governor Nassir explained that their push is tied to the idea of a broad-based government arrangement, where different political sides come together to share leadership.
He said ODM would be keen on negotiating for the Deputy President position as part of such an agreement in 2027.
Nassir was quick to clarify that their focus is not on the current government structure but on future political planning.
He noted that the current Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki, should not feel threatened, as the discussions are about the next election.
“When it comes to the Deputy President position, we are not after it now but in 2027.
Kindiki should not get worried because that position is his for now, but in 2027 Joho will take it in the broad-based arrangement,” Nassir said.
Other leaders echoed his remarks, saying Joho has built a strong political profile over the years.
They pointed to his time as Mombasa Governor and his current role in the national government as proof that he understands both local and national issues.
Governor Mung’aro added that the Coast region has long been a stronghold of ODM and that the party is working to strengthen its support even further.
He said leaders are united and determined to deliver all elective seats in the region in the next election.
Fikirini Jacobs, who represents the youth in government, emphasized the importance of involving young people in politics.
He said Joho’s leadership style connects well with the youth, making him a strong candidate for higher office.
