Teso South Member of Parliament Mary Emase has suggested that the leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is likely to remain within the family of the party’s long-time leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a public engagement, Emase said that the influence and leadership of Raila within ODM have been so strong over the years that it would not be surprising if future leadership of the party continues to come from members of his family.

According to the legislator, the political direction of the party has been closely associated with the Odinga family since its formation.

Emase pointed out that even after Raila eventually steps away from active leadership, another family member may take over the responsibility of guiding the party.

She mentioned Oburu Odinga as one of the senior figures who could play a leadership role within the party structure before the next generation of the family possibly steps forward.

The MP suggested that after Oburu, leadership of ODM could eventually pass to one of Raila Odinga’s children, although she did not name a specific individual.

Her remarks sparked conversation among political observers, as they raised questions about the future leadership of one of Kenya’s most influential political parties.

ODM has remained a powerful force in Kenyan politics for many years.

The party has attracted strong support in several regions of the country and has played a major role in shaping political debates and national policy discussions.

For many supporters, Raila Odinga has been the face and driving force behind the party since its early days.

Because of this long-standing connection, some political leaders believe that the party’s identity is closely linked to Raila’s leadership and political legacy.

Emase noted that the respect and loyalty that many ODM supporters have for Raila could naturally extend to members of his family who may wish to continue his political vision.

However, the MP also acknowledged that the future of the party will ultimately depend on decisions made by its members and leadership structures.

Political parties in Kenya have established processes for selecting their leaders, and any transition would likely involve internal consultations and elections.

Her comments have generated mixed reactions in political circles. Some observers believe that leadership continuity within the Odinga family could help maintain unity and stability within the party.

Others argue that political parties should encourage broader leadership competition to allow new voices and ideas to emerge.

Despite the differing views, Emase insisted that her remarks were meant to highlight the deep influence Raila Odinga has had within ODM and the respect many party supporters have for his leadership.
