The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is set to launch the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise on Monday, March 30, 2026, in a move aimed at increasing voter numbers ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The 30-day exercise will run daily until Tuesday, April 28, 2026, covering all days of the week, from Monday to Sunday.

According to the commission, voter registration during the ECVR period will be conducted across multiple locations to enhance accessibility.

These include county assembly wards on a rotational basis guided by kit movement schedules, universities and colleges within respective constituencies, Huduma Centres, the IEBC Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi, and constituency offices.

The initiative is anchored on the theme, “Deepening Democracy in Kenya Through Inclusive Voter Registration,” reflecting the commission’s commitment to expanding participation in the electoral process.

IEBC Commissioner Ann Nderitu said the exercise will prioritise grassroots access by taking registration services closer to wananchi at the ward level.

She noted that clerks will be deployed across the country to ensure as many eligible voters as possible are registered.

The commission expects the exercise to attract a large number of first-time voters, particularly young people who have recently attained the legal voting age.

It also aims to register individuals who may have missed previous registration opportunities.

Nderitu emphasised the importance of inclusive participation, noting that the success of the exercise depends on the willingness of eligible citizens to come forward and register.

She urged Kenyans to take advantage of the extended registration period and the wide range of available centres.

The IEBC has also assured the public that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the process runs smoothly.

This includes the deployment of sufficient personnel and equipment, as well as coordination with local administrators to facilitate operations.

In addition to physical registration centres, the commission is expected to carry out public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on the importance of voter registration and the procedures involved.

These efforts are intended to boost turnout and ensure that no eligible voter is left out.

Observers note that continuous voter registration is a critical component of the electoral process, as it helps maintain an updated and accurate voter register.

It also plays a key role in promoting democratic participation by giving citizens the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.

The upcoming exercise is particularly significant as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election, with political parties and stakeholders already beginning to mobilise support.
