Osotsi said the decision to hold a parallel meeting was not taken lightly.
According to him, the group believes the planned NDC by the Linda Ground faction does not follow the party’s rules and lacks legitimacy.
He argued that the process used to organise that convention was not inclusive and failed to reflect the will of ordinary ODM members.
“We will not attend a meeting that we believe is illegal and does not respect the voice of the people,” Osotsi said.
He added that their alternative convention will focus on open discussions and will involve grassroots members who feel left out of the decision-making process.
The Linda Mwananchi faction has also revealed that some ODM members have already taken legal action to challenge the planned NDC by the rival group.
The case, now before the courts, is expected to determine whether the convention can go on as planned or if it violates party regulations.
The unfolding situation highlights growing tensions within ODM, one of Kenya’s most influential political parties.
Analysts say the emergence of parallel events could deepen divisions and weaken unity ahead of future political contests.
Supporters of the Linda Mwananchi group argue that their move is meant to protect democracy within the party.
They insist that all members should have a fair chance to participate in key decisions, including the organisation of major events like the NDC.
