Suna East MP Junet Mohamed presided over the process, guiding members through a voice vote to affirm the decision.
“Now that we have a proposer and a seconder, let me ask the question.
As many of that opinion say ‘Aye’ and as many as of the contrary opinion say ‘No’, the Ayes have it. Now Senator Oburu Oginga is the party leader of ODM,” posed Junet Mohamed.
The declaration was met with approval from delegates, effectively confirming Oburu’s position at the helm of the party.
Oburu Odinga had been holding the role on an interim basis following internal party changes.
During that period, he oversaw party operations and worked to maintain unity within the ranks, navigating a transitional phase for the party.
His confirmation now gives him a full mandate to lead ODM, at a time when the party is expected to strengthen its structures and redefine its political strategy.
The Special Delegates Conference brought together party representatives from across the country, providing a platform to deliberate on leadership, governance, and the party’s future direction.
Delegates used the forum to reaffirm their commitment to the party’s ideals, while also backing the new leadership to guide ODM through the evolving political landscape.
The event also served as a show of unity, with members rallying behind Oburu as he takes on the leadership role substantively.
His experience in politics and long-standing involvement in the party were cited by supporters as key strengths that position him to lead effectively.
Party officials expressed optimism that his leadership would help consolidate support and enhance coordination within ODM structures at both the national and grassroots levels.
The endorsement marks a significant moment for the party, coming after months of transition that required steady leadership to maintain cohesion.
