Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Siaya Governor James Orengo have called for the impeachment of President William Ruto following his recent remarks directed at opposition leaders.

The two leaders said the President’s statements raise serious concerns about respect for the Constitution and the conduct expected from a holder of such a high office.

Speaking during a Linda Mwananchi press briefing on Wednesday, March 18, the leaders expressed strong dissatisfaction with what they described as inappropriate and divisive language.

They argued that the Head of State should always act in a way that promotes unity and reflects the dignity of the presidency.

Governor Orengo said that the office of the President carries great responsibility and must be guided by the law at all times.

He noted that the Constitution clearly outlines how state officers should behave, including the need to avoid statements that may promote division or harm national cohesion.

According to Orengo, some of the President’s recent comments go against these expectations.

He claimed that the remarks could be interpreted as offensive and not in line with the spirit of leadership required under the Constitution.

“A leader at that level must conduct themselves in a way that brings honour to the country and respect to the office they hold,” Orengo said.

He added that leaders must always choose their words carefully, especially when addressing political opponents or sensitive national issues.

Senator Osotsi supported the call, saying that the matter should not be taken lightly.

He pointed out that the Constitution provides clear grounds for impeachment, including gross violation of the law or failure to uphold constitutional principles.

Osotsi said that if a leader is seen to go against these principles, then appropriate action must be considered.

He stressed that accountability applies to all leaders, regardless of their position.

The two leaders said they will continue to push for what they believe is the right course of action, while also encouraging other leaders to speak out on the issue.

They insisted that Kenya must uphold strong democratic values where leaders are held responsible for their actions.

However, the calls for impeachment are likely to spark debate across the political divide, with supporters of the President expected to defend his remarks and leadership style.
