Jubilee Party has apologised to the family of the late Ol Kalou Member of Parliament, David Kiaraho, following a political standoff between rival factions that disrupted his requiem mass.

The party acknowledged that the incident interfered with what should have been a solemn period of mourning and reflection for the family, friends, and constituents of the late legislator.

Speaking on Friday, April 10, 2026, during Kiaraho’s burial at his Tigoni home in Kiambu County, Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni conveyed the party’s regrets over the unfortunate events.

He said the disruption witnessed during the requiem mass was deeply regrettable and did not reflect the values the party stands for.

Kioni described Kiaraho as a dedicated leader who believed in unity and cooperation across political divides.

He noted that the late MP consistently prioritised the interests of the people who elected him, often working with leaders from different political backgrounds to deliver development.

According to Kioni, the events that unfolded during the requiem mass were particularly painful given Kiaraho’s commitment to fostering harmony in leadership.

He emphasised that such incidents should not overshadow the legacy of a leader who valued collaboration and service to the public.

“Kiaraho never joked about party politics and knew how to work with others for people who elected them, na kwa sababu tulikuwa kule Ol Kalou na tuliona yale yalitendeka, na kwaniaba ya party leader, tunataka kusema pole kwa watu wa familia na watu wa Ol Kalou,” Kioni said.

He reiterated the party’s apology to the bereaved family and the residents of Ol Kalou, acknowledging the distress caused by the political wrangles.

Kioni assured mourners that the party had taken note of the incident and would strive to ensure such occurrences are avoided in the future.

The disruption during the requiem mass had drawn criticism from various quarters, with leaders and members of the public calling for respect for mourning families and restraint from political confrontations during such occasions.

Kioni urged political leaders to exercise decorum and sensitivity, especially during funerals and other solemn events.

He stressed the importance of putting aside political differences in moments of grief, noting that such occasions should be used to honour the departed and support grieving families.

He further called for unity among leaders, saying that political competition should not come at the expense of respect and dignity for the deceased and their loved ones.

Kioni emphasised that maintaining peace during such events is essential in preserving national cohesion.

The Jubilee Party’s apology comes amid growing concern over rising political tensions spilling into public and private spaces, including funerals.

Observers have warned that such incidents risk deepening divisions and undermining efforts to promote peaceful coexistence.
