Speaking in an interview with Kameme FM on Monday, February 27, 2026, the senator alleged that the money was meant to secure his support for the impeachment.
“I was promised Ksh50M during Rigathi’s impeachment as deputy president,” Methu said.
He claimed the incident highlighted the level of political influence and pressure surrounding the impeachment process, adding that it raised concerns about the integrity of decision-making within government.
According to Methu, he declined the alleged offer and maintained his position based on his own assessment of the matter.
He did not disclose the identities of those he claims were involved, but suggested that the attempt reflected a broader pattern of political manoeuvring.
The senator’s remarks come amid continued debate over the circumstances surrounding Gachagua’s removal from office, with various leaders raising concerns about the conduct of the process.
Methu further stated that such allegations point to the need for greater transparency and accountability in political proceedings, particularly those involving significant constitutional decisions like impeachment.
He maintained that leaders should make decisions guided by the law and the interests of the public, rather than external influence or financial inducements.
The claims have not been independently verified, and no official response had been issued by the individuals or institutions allegedly involved at the time of publication.
Gachagua’s impeachment has remained a subject of political and legal scrutiny, with the former Deputy President challenging the process in court and alleging that it was marred by procedural irregularities.
Methu’s allegations are likely to add to the ongoing discourse, potentially prompting calls for investigations into the claims and the broader conduct of the impeachment process.
Observers note that allegations of bribery in political processes, if proven, could have serious implications for governance and public trust in institutions.
