Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Kampala ahead of the presidential inauguration ceremony of Yoweri Museveni, scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

Uhuru’s visit places him among several regional and international leaders expected to attend the high-profile ceremony, which will officially mark the beginning of another term for President Museveni, one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders.

The former Kenyan Head of State travelled to Uganda as preparations intensified in Kampala, where security and protocol arrangements have been heightened ahead of the inauguration event expected to attract dignitaries from across Africa and beyond.

Museveni’s inauguration is anticipated to be one of the region’s most closely watched political events, reflecting Uganda’s continued significance in East African politics, regional security and economic cooperation.

Uhuru and Museveni have maintained a long-standing political and diplomatic relationship spanning several years, strengthened further during Uhuru’s tenure as Kenya’s fourth President.

The two leaders frequently collaborated on regional matters involving trade, infrastructure development, peace initiatives and East African Community integration.

Analysts say Uhuru’s attendance at the ceremony underscores the enduring diplomatic ties between Kenya and Uganda, two neighbouring countries whose economies and political interests remain closely interconnected.

The visit also comes at a time when former African presidents are increasingly taking on active diplomatic and advisory roles within the continent.

Since leaving office, Uhuru has remained engaged in several regional peace and mediation initiatives, particularly in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region.

His presence at the Kampala ceremony is expected to attract political attention both in Kenya and Uganda, given his continued influence in regional affairs and East African diplomacy.

Meanwhile, Kampala has been preparing for the inauguration with large deployments of security personnel across key roads, government installations and major event venues.

Authorities in Uganda have also been coordinating the arrival of foreign delegations expected to attend the ceremony.

President Museveni has led Uganda for nearly four decades and remains one of the continent’s most recognisable political figures.

Over the years, he has positioned Uganda as a key player in regional peacekeeping missions, security cooperation and trade within East Africa.
