Kwanza Member of Parliament Ferdinand Wanyonyi has returned to the country after spending approximately five months in India, where he had travelled to undergo specialised medical treatment.

The legislator was airlifted to India in early December 2025 on the advice of doctors, following a month-long admission at The Nairobi Hospital.

His transfer abroad was part of efforts to seek further medical care that was not readily available locally.

Wanyonyi arrived back in Kenya on Monday evening, marking the end of his extended stay outside the country.

He was received by members of his family upon arrival, bringing relief to his supporters and constituents who had been following his recovery.

Details regarding the nature of his illness have not been publicly disclosed.

However, his absence from official duties over the past several months had raised concern among residents of his constituency, with leaders and supporters expressing hope for his recovery during that period.

His return was confirmed by the Democratic Action Party–Kenya, which is led by Eugene Wamalwa.

The party acknowledged his arrival back in the country, signalling that he had completed the phase of treatment that required him to remain abroad.

Wanyonyi’s journey highlights a common trend among Kenyan leaders and citizens who seek specialised treatment outside the country when faced with complex medical conditions.

India remains one of the preferred destinations due to its advanced healthcare facilities and relatively accessible treatment options.

During his time away, there was limited public information about his condition, with updates largely coming from close associates and political allies.

His return is therefore expected to reassure constituents who had been concerned about his wellbeing and ability to resume his responsibilities.

It remains unclear when the MP will fully return to his parliamentary duties, as recovery timelines often depend on medical advice following such procedures.

Nonetheless, his arrival back in the country marks a significant step in his recovery process.
