The former parliamentary aspirant clarified that his engagement with Governor Mbarire should not be interpreted as a political shift or secret negotiations to join the government camp.
He maintained that his interactions with the Embu governor were based on matters affecting residents and development issues within the county.
Kariuki said some individuals had accused him of being compromised after his loss in the Mbeere North by-election, with claims emerging that he was quietly seeking to align himself with the government.
However, he firmly denied the allegations, insisting that his relationship with the governor was purely based on leadership responsibilities and the need for cooperation on issues affecting the people of Embu County.
“I am not talking to Cecily as an individual, but to the Governor of Embu who represents the interests of the people,” Kariuki stated.
He emphasized that Governor Mbarire serves all residents of Embu County, including people from his home area of Mumenje in Mbeere North, regardless of political affiliation.
According to Kariuki, political competition should not prevent leaders from engaging one another during public functions, development forums, or community gatherings.
He argued that cooperation between leaders is necessary for the benefit of residents and should not automatically be viewed through a political lens.
The former aspirant further noted that dialogue among leaders is important in addressing local development needs, especially in areas such as infrastructure, public services, and community welfare.
His remarks come amid heightened political realignments and growing scrutiny of opposition figures seen interacting with leaders from the ruling coalition.
In recent months, several politicians have faced speculation over possible defections after appearing at government-linked events or holding meetings with senior officials.
