Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho joined a host of senior Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders during the party’s retreat held at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa.

The high-level meeting brought together key figures within the party, including ODM deputy party leaders Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Nassir, as well as the associates.

“Up to now, I’ve spent close to 70 million shillings on DJ Evolve’s care, taking loans from banks and my circle,” he said.

DJ Evolve, whose real name is Felix Orinda, has been undergoing treatment and rehabilitation following a widely publicised shooting incident that left him with serious injuries.

Since then, his recovery has involved prolonged hospital stays, specialised treatment and continuous care, all of which have contributed to the rising costs.

Babu noted that the financial burden has not been easy to sustain, but emphasised that he remains committed to supporting DJ Evolve’s recovery.

He described the situation as one that goes beyond politics, framing it instead as a matter of personal responsibility and humanity.

Over the years, updates on DJ Evolve’s condition have drawn public interest, with many Kenyans closely following his progress.

His case has also sparked broader conversations about accountability, access to healthcare and the cost of long-term medical treatment in the country.

Despite the challenges, Babu maintained that he does not regret the support he has offered.

He pointed out that the journey has required sacrifices, including taking on debt, but said his priority has always been ensuring that DJ Evolve receives the best possible care.

The MP’s remarks shed light on the often unseen realities of long-term medical care, particularly in cases involving severe injuries that require continuous attention.

Such care can include multiple surgeries, physiotherapy, specialised equipment and full-time assistance, all of which come at a significant cost.
