KMPDU said the crowd invaded the hospital premises, causing fear and panic among patients and medical staff.
The union noted that the disruption interfered with critical medical services and compromised the safety of both healthcare workers and patients seeking treatment.
KMPDU described the incident as unacceptable, warning that hospitals should remain protected spaces regardless of the prevailing political or social tensions.
“At no point should hospitals become battlegrounds or scenes of intimidation. Health workers must be allowed to carry out their duties in a safe and secure environment,” the union said in part of its statement.
KMPDU further stated that healthcare facilities are protected institutions that must be respected by all members of the public, even during periods of unrest.
The union warned that acts of violence and intimidation within hospitals could have devastating consequences, especially for patients in critical condition who depend on uninterrupted medical care.
The doctors’ union also called on security agencies and county authorities to take immediate action to restore order and enhance security around public hospitals.
It urged the government to ensure healthcare workers are protected from violence and harassment while carrying out their responsibilities.
Medical staff at the facility were reportedly left shaken by the incident, with some operations temporarily interrupted as tension escalated within the hospital compound.
Patients and visitors are also said to have fled some sections of the hospital during the commotion.
KMPDU maintained that attacks or invasions targeting hospitals threaten not only healthcare workers but also innocent patients who rely on medical institutions for safety and treatment.
The union warned that such incidents could discourage healthcare workers from operating in volatile environments if adequate protection is not guaranteed.
