Jackson Kihara made the allegations before High Court Judge Alexander Muteti while seeking a review of his 20-year prison sentence.
Kihara, who is currently serving time after being convicted of robbery with violence, claimed his legal troubles were tied to a long-running family dispute over inheritance and property ownership following the death of his father.
During the court proceedings, Kihara argued that he had been unfairly targeted and framed in the criminal case to remove him from the succession battle involving the family estate.
He told the court that his conviction had negatively affected his life and denied him the opportunity to participate in matters concerning the management and inheritance of family property.
Kihara asked the court to review his sentence, maintaining that there were circumstances surrounding the case that deserved fresh consideration.
The application placed renewed attention on internal wrangles within the prominent Gachagua family, which has previously been linked to disputes over property and succession matters.
Although the allegations against the former Deputy President were raised in court, no evidence was immediately presented publicly to support the claims made by Kihara.
Rigathi Gachagua has not publicly responded to the accusations raised during the proceedings.
The robbery with violence conviction stems from a criminal case in which Kihara was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison. His latest application seeks to have the sentence reconsidered by the High Court.
Judge Alexander Muteti heard the application and is expected to determine whether the court will review the sentence or uphold the earlier decision.
The case has generated public interest due to the prominence of the family involved and the serious allegations raised in court regarding inheritance and alleged misuse of influence.
Legal analysts note that sentence review applications are common in criminal matters, particularly where convicts argue that there were procedural concerns, excessive punishment or new circumstances that warrant reconsideration.
