The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has rejected the suspension of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohamed, alongside other members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), citing procedural irregularities in the manner the decision was made.

In a strongly worded letter dated May 25 and obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, FIFA’s Chief Member Associations Officer Elkhan Mammadov communicated directly to the FKF NEC, outlining the global football governing body’s position on the matter.

FIFA stated that the suspension process did not comply with Article 41 of the FKF Constitution, which clearly outlines the procedures that must be followed before any official can be provisionally suspended or dismissed from office.

After reviewing the information, documents, and explanations submitted, FIFA emphasized that the constitutional provisions governing such actions were not properly observed.

“Having carefully considered the information, documentation and explanations submitted, we deem it necessary to recall the relevant provisions of the FKF Constitution governing such situations,” the letter stated.

FIFA further made its position clear regarding the process that had been undertaken, stating: “FIFA therefore categorically rejects the procedure that has been followed in this matter.”

According to Article 41 of the FKF Constitution, any suspension of officials must follow strict guidelines.

These include a formal proposal of the suspension, proper inclusion of the matter in the agenda, and prior communication to all NEC members.

The process must also meet the required quorum and voting thresholds.

In addition, the affected official must be granted a fair opportunity to be heard before any decision is made.

FIFA noted that these safeguards are essential to ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness within football governance structures.

The intervention by FIFA effectively places scrutiny on the internal governance processes within the FKF, reinforcing the importance of adherence to constitutional procedures in decision-making at the federation level.

The development comes at a time when FKF has been navigating internal administrative tensions, with various stakeholders calling for strict compliance with governance rules and due process in handling leadership disputes.
