Minimum wages in Kenya are set to increase by more than Sh4,000 following new adjustments announced by the government.

The changes will see workers across various sectors earn higher pay, with agricultural workers receiving the biggest boost.

According to the new structure, employees in the agricultural sector are set to benefit structure of the state corporation, which operates under the Ministry of Defence.

No detailed reasons were provided for the revocation, but the directive takes effect immediately, effectively ending Omanga’s tenure at the helm of the board.

Omanga, a vocal political figure and former legislator, had been appointed to the board as part of efforts to strengthen oversight and governance at the strategic maritime facility.

Her removal now raises questions about ongoing restructuring within state corporations and the broader direction being taken by the ministry.

Kenya Shipyards Limited plays a critical role in maritime operations, including ship repair, maintenance, and the development of Kenya’s blue economy agenda.

The board is tasked with providing strategic guidance, ensuring accountability, and supporting the entity’s long-term growth.

Tuya’s move comes amid a series of recent changes affecting appointments across various government institutions, signalling a possible shift in administrative priorities.

While the Ministry of Defence has not publicly elaborated on the reasons behind Omanga’s removal, such decisions are typically influenced by policy considerations, performance reviews, or broader government restructuring efforts.

Omanga has not issued a public statement regarding her removal at the time of publication.

However, her tenure on the board had attracted attention due to her political background and active presence in national affairs.

The revocation underscores the discretionary powers held by appointing authorities in restructuring boards of state corporations.

It also highlights the often fluid nature of public appointments, which can change depending on evolving government priorities.

Stakeholders within the maritime and defence sectors are expected to closely watch the developments, particularly regarding who will be appointed to replace Omanga and how the change may impact the operations of Kenya Shipyards Limited.
