Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has clarified claims surrounding his involvement in the Mbeere North by-election, stating that his party, the Democratic Congress Party (DCP), did not present a candidate in the contest.

According to Gachagua, his presence in the constituency was purely to support Speaker Justin Muturi’s Democratic Party (DP) candidate, not to push his own party’s agenda.

Speaking during a Sunday event, Gachagua dismissed allegations suggesting that DCP had performed poorly in the by-election.

He explained that critics were spreading misinformation to create political tension and undermine his influence, even though his party was not officially part of the race.

Gachagua emphasized that political cooperation is normal and that supporting a candidate from a friendly party should not be interpreted as weakness.

He noted that leaders often stand with partners whose interests align with theirs, and in this case, it was natural for him to support Muturi’s DP candidate.

He further stressed that DCP continues to perform well in other regions, where the party has fielded its own candidates and built strong grassroots networks.

According to him, one by-election especially one where DCP had no direct involvement cannot be used to judge the party’s national strength.

Gachagua also urged Kenyans not to fall for narratives created to spark division.

He said his political journey remains steady and focused, and that he will continue supporting leaders and parties that share similar values and goals for the country.
