Malava MP-elect David Ndakwa has called on President William Ruto to offer Seth Panyako, his closest competitor in the Malava by-election, a position in government.
Ndakwa made the appeal on Saturday, November 29, 2025, during his homecoming ceremony, where he addressed residents who turned up to celebrate his victory.
Speaking to the crowd, Ndakwa said that although the campaign period had been intense and marked by a strong contest between him and Panyako, he believed his former rival deserved recognition and a chance to serve the country.
Panyako, who ran on a United Opposition Party ticket, finished second in the by-election.
Ndakwa told the gathering that political competition should not break relationships or stop leaders from supporting one another once elections are over.
He explained that Panyako demonstrated commitment, courage, and leadership during the campaign, qualities he believes can be useful in government.
He encouraged President Ruto to consider Panyako for a suitable role, saying that giving him an opportunity would not only reward his effort but also show that the government values talent from across the political divide.
Ndakwa emphasised that good governance requires leaders to rise above party differences.
“Nataka kuambia Ruto kuna mwenzangu ambaye tulipambana naye, anaitwa Seth Panyako.
Mimi nakuambia umkumbuke umpatie kazi, aishi kama wengine,” Ndakwa told the crowd, urging the President to remember Panyako and extend to him the same opportunities others enjoy.
The MP-elect also used the occasion to thank Malava residents for trusting him with their votes.
He promised to work closely with them regardless of their political choices during the by-election.
Ndakwa said his leadership would focus on unity, development, and service delivery.
