President William Ruto and ODM party leader Oburu Odinga were among the high-profile leaders who attended the colourful wedding ceremony of Mohammed Noordin Mohamed Haji, the son of National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji, in Ijara constituency, Garissa County.

The ceremony, held on Saturday, brought together top national and regional leaders, family members, and hundreds of residents who had gathered to celebrate the union.

The event was marked by traditional Somali customs, warm speeches, and moments of unity across political lines.

President Ruto congratulated the young couple and commended the Haji family for hosting a ceremony that showcased peace and cultural pride.

He also noted the importance of strong families in building a stable and prosperous nation.

Ruto’s presence reflected the close ties between the government and leaders from the region, especially the long-standing relationship with the Haji family.

Oburu Odinga’s attendance drew special attention from those present. It was one of his first major public appearances after weeks of being reported unwell and said to be outside the country for medical reasons.

Many leaders and residents expressed joy at seeing him in good health and in high spirits.

Oburu took time to greet guests, share light moments with fellow leaders, and extend his blessings to the newlyweds.

The gathering also included Cabinet Secretaries, governors, senators, MPs, and community elders, all of whom praised the Haji family for maintaining unity within the region and contributing to national cohesion.

Speakers highlighted Noordin Haji’s long service in public office and described the event as a reminder that, beyond politics and duty, family remains at the heart of Kenyan society.
