Female learners have recorded an impressive performance in the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), emerging ahead of their male counterparts in a majority of the tested subjects.

According to the official results released by the Ministry of Education, girls outperformed boys in 10 out of the 12 subjects under the “Meeting Expectations” and “Exceeding Expectations” categories, marking a strong milestone in the early years of the Competency-Based Education system.

Education officials noted that the results highlight the growing confidence and consistency of female learners across the country.

Their strong performance was seen in subjects such as Kiswahili, Christian Religious Education, Creative Arts and Sports, Social Studies, Agriculture, and several others where girls recorded higher percentages of learners meeting or surpassing the required standards.

While boys also performed well, they led in only two subjects across the key assessment categories.

This year’s outcome shows a continuation of a trend observed in other national assessments, where girls have been steadily improving and often leading in language-based and social science subjects.

Experts in the education sector have praised this development, saying it demonstrates the positive impact of ongoing efforts to promote gender equality in schools.

They noted that more girls now have access to learning materials, mentorship programs, and supportive environments both at home and in school.

These advancements, they say, are helping to narrow historical gender gaps in education.

The Ministry of Education also celebrated the achievement, describing it as a sign of progress within the Competency-Based Education framework.

Officials encouraged parents, teachers, and community leaders to continue supporting all learners, regardless of gender, to help them discover their strengths and talents as they prepare for senior school placement in January 2026.
