Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has humorously admitted to pretending there was an emergency to avoid paying a restaurant bill on a date.

Speaking to a local podcaster on Thursday, December 4, 2025, Mosiria recounted the story, which he says happened several years ago.

He explained that he had met a woman on social media and arranged to meet her in Nairobi’s Central Business District for a casual outing. Mosiria suggested Highlands Restaurant at Corner House, believing it would be affordable.

“Hapo Highlands ukiwa na soo mbili uko sorted kama mko wawili,” he joked, referring to the fact that a cup of tea and an andazi were just fifty shillings each at the time.

Mosiria arrived at the restaurant and was surprised to bump into an old acquaintance, Augustus, who decided to join them.

Suddenly, what was meant to be a quiet date turned into a trio gathering, complicating the bill situation.

Realizing the expense would increase, Mosiria said he quickly devised a plan. He told his date that an urgent matter required his immediate attention, excusing himself from the table.

He left the restaurant, effectively avoiding the bill, and later laughed about the incident during the interview.Reflecting on the story, Mosiria admitted it was a foolish but funny moment in his past.

He used the experience to illustrate how unexpected circumstances—like an unplanned guest—can change simple plans.

His candid storytelling resonated with listeners, many of whom found the honesty and humor refreshing.

He also noted that while it was a small act, it taught him lessons about preparation, honesty, and the unpredictability of social interactions.

Mosiria’s recounting reminded people that even public figures have human moments filled with awkwardness and improvisation.
