Speaking confidently, Babu said he has the experience, strength, and connection with the people needed to guide the party into its next chapter.
In a statement shared on his Facebook account on Friday, January 30, 2026, the outspoken MP said that despite the internal disagreements currently being witnessed within ODM, he remains convinced that he is the most suitable candidate to lead the party.
He noted that political differences are normal in any large movement and should not be used to weaken the party.
Babu acknowledged that ODM is going through a period of tension, with different leaders holding varying opinions about the party’s direction. However, he said these challenges are temporary and will be resolved through dialogue and unity.
According to him, what matters most is protecting the future of the party and ensuring it remains strong and relevant.
In his statement, Babu spoke partly in Kiswahili, saying:
“Maneno ni mengi na mnaskia kwenye runinga, mnaskia kwenye radio, mahali popote mnaskia vita ambayo iko ata katika chama chetu cha ODM.
Sisi tutatatua hiyo mambo mbele, lakini ile hatuwezi weka chini ni kuwa Babu Owino ndiye ambaye anafaa kuwa party leader wa ODM.”
Translated, Babu said that there is a lot being said on television, radio, and social media about the fights within ODM.
He added that while those issues will be addressed in the future, one thing that should not be ignored is his belief that he is the right person to lead the party.
The MP argued that ODM needs bold and youthful leadership that understands the struggles of ordinary Kenyans, especially the youth.
He said he has consistently stood with the people on key national issues, both in Parliament and outside, and that his leadership style reflects the values ODM was built on.
Babu also pointed to his long history in student leadership and national politics as proof that he can handle pressure and guide a major political party.
He said ODM must prepare early for the future by identifying leaders who can energize supporters and protect the party’s ideals.
