New Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement, Catherine Omanyo, has sharply criticized Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over his handling of party leadership matters involving Oburu Odinga.

Omanyo questioned the senator’s consistency, accusing him of creating confusion among party members and supporters.

Speaking during a media appearance , Omanyo raised concerns about what she described as contradictory actions by Sifuna.

She claimed that Sifuna previously presided over the swearing-in of Oburu Odinga as a party leader but later appeared on television to claim he did not recognize him in that position.

According to Omanyo, such actions risk damaging the credibility and unity of the party.

Omanyo openly questioned whether it was right for a senior party leader to take part in an official swearing-in ceremony and later distance himself from the same decision.

She said party leadership processes should be respected to avoid sending mixed messages to supporters.

According to her, leadership disputes handled in public risk weakening the party’s image.

The ODM official stressed that party leaders are expected to show discipline and unity, especially when dealing with internal matters.

She warned that public disagreements among senior officials may create confusion among grassroots supporters and reduce trust in party structures.

Omanyo urged leaders to resolve disagreements through internal party mechanisms rather than public confrontations.

The Secretary General said ODM has long been known for its organized leadership structure and strong political influence.

She warned that continued public disputes among leaders could weaken the party at a time when it is preparing for future political contests.

According to her, party officials must remain focused on strengthening internal unity instead of engaging in conflicts that divide supporters.

Omanyo also emphasized the importance of respecting decisions made through party processes.

She said once a leadership decision is made and officially recognized, leaders should stand by it or follow established procedures to challenge it.

She argued that ignoring such processes creates uncertainty and damages the party’s reputation.

Her remarks come at a time when ODM has been experiencing internal tensions over leadership roles and political direction.

Political observers say the disagreements reflect wider debates within the party about its future strategy and leadership structure ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Supporters of Sifuna have defended him, arguing that party leadership matters can be complex and may involve differing legal or political interpretations.

They say disagreements within political parties are normal and can sometimes help strengthen leadership through open debate.

However, Omanyo maintained that internal discussions should remain respectful and guided by party rules.

She insisted that leaders must avoid actions that appear to undermine official decisions or create uncertainty among members.

The ODM Secretary General further called on party leaders to prioritize unity and focus on the party’s long-term goals.

She said strong and united leadership is necessary for ODM to maintain its political influence and effectively represent the interests of its supporters.
