Nairobi High Court has heard new testimony in the ongoing murder case involving socialite Starlet Wahu, where a police officer told the court that the accused, John Matara, admitted to stabbing her.

The information was presented during a court session in the criminal division as the case continues to unfold.

Matara is facing charges linked to the death of Starlet Wahu, which allegedly happened on January 3, 2024, at a short-stay apartment located at Papino Apartments in South B, Nairobi.

Despite the serious accusations, Matara pleaded not guilty when he appeared in court on February 2, 2024.

During a court session held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, before Justice Alexander Muteti, Corporal Horace Arwa gave his testimony about his interaction with the accused shortly after the incident.

The officer told the court that he spoke to Matara while he was receiving treatment following the incident.

Corporal Arwa said he decided to ask Matara directly about what had happened. “My lord, I directly asked him why he had killed the lady he was with at the apartment,” the officer told the court.

He explained that during the conversation, he also asked Matara whether he knew the woman who had died.

According to the officer’s testimony, Matara responded by saying he knew the woman and identified her as Starlet.

Arwa further told the court that the accused claimed Starlet was his girlfriend. The officer added that Matara admitted to stabbing her in her right thigh during the incident.

The testimony formed part of the prosecution’s efforts to present evidence linking Matara to the death of the socialite.

However, the accused has continued to deny the murder charge, and the case is still under hearing as the court examines all available evidence.

The death of Starlet Wahu attracted widespread public attention when it first happened in early 2024.

Wahu, who was well known in social circles and on social media, was reportedly found dead inside the apartment where she had been staying with Matara.

The incident sparked discussions across the country, with many people calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the deceased.

During earlier court proceedings, medical evidence was also presented, indicating that Wahu died from injuries linked to physical trauma.

The findings were part of the broader investigation aimed at establishing the exact circumstances that led to her death.

As the case continues, both the prosecution and the defence are expected to present witnesses and evidence to support their positions.

Legal experts note that witness testimonies play a key role in helping the court determine what happened and whether the accused person is responsible for the crime.

Justice Muteti is expected to continue hearing testimonies from witnesses as the trial progresses. The court will eventually make a ruling based on the evidence presented by both sides.
