In her remarks, she took time to thank President William Ruto for the confidence he has shown in her leadership.
She described the opportunity as a call to service and pledged to carry out her duties with professionalism and commitment.
According to Ida, representing Kenya at UNEP requires experience, diplomacy, and a deep understanding of both national and international matters, qualities she believes she has developed over the years.
However, her message was also deeply personal. Ida made a heartfelt tribute to her late husband, Raila Odinga, describing him as her greatest supporter and source of strength.
She said Raila played a major role in shaping the person she has become today.
Through decades of public life, challenges, and service to the nation, she stood by his side and learned valuable lessons about leadership, resilience, and commitment to the people.
Ida reflected on the sacrifices they both made while serving the country in different capacities.
She shared that her husband’s guidance and encouragement helped her grow into a strong and independent leader.
Even in difficult times, she said, he believed in her abilities and pushed her to pursue excellence in everything she did.
She spoke warmly about the partnership they shared, saying it was built on mutual respect and shared values.
Raila’s passion for justice, democracy, and national development, she noted, deeply influenced her own approach to public service.
His recent passing has left a significant gap in her life, but she said his legacy continues to inspire her.
Ida added that as she steps into this new role, she carries with her the lessons, values, and strength she gained from her husband.
She promised to honour his memory by serving Kenya faithfully and working toward environmental progress that benefits present and future generations.
