Tension rose on Friday morning after a truck linked to the Linda Mwananchi faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was attacked with stones while heading to Kakamega County for a planned rally.

The truck was part of a convoy travelling to Kakamega ahead of a political event scheduled for Saturday, February 21.

The rally was expected to bring together supporters of the Linda Mwananchi wing, a group within the Orange Democratic Movement that has recently been vocal about its position in national politics.

According to videos shared online by Edwin Sifuna, the incident happened at Kona Mbaya trading centre on Friday morning.

In the clips posted by the Nairobi Senator, the convoy appears to be moving at a steady pace before the situation suddenly changes.

In one of the videos, a turnboy standing in the truck is seen chanting movement slogans.

The mood at that moment seems energetic, with those on board expressing confidence as they headed to the rally venue. However, within seconds, a rock is seen flying toward the truck.

The stone strikes the vehicle, causing immediate panic. The driver struggles to maintain control of the truck as confusion erupts.

The turnboy quickly ducks, bending down toward the floor of the truck in an attempt to shield himself from further harm.

The video captures the fear and urgency of the moment as those inside try to stay safe.

It is not clear who threw the stone or what triggered the attack. However, the incident has raised concerns about rising political tensions as different factions prepare for public rallies and meetings.

Supporters of the Linda Mwananchi faction have condemned the attack, describing it as an attempt to intimidate them and disrupt their activities.

Political gatherings in various parts of the country have recently attracted heightened emotions, especially as leaders position themselves ahead of future political contests.

While rallies are meant to provide a platform for leaders to speak to their supporters, incidents like this highlight the risk of violence when tempers flare.

No serious injuries were immediately reported following the stoning. The truck continued its journey after the brief disruption, and the convoy proceeded toward Kakamega.

However, the damage to the vehicle and the fear experienced by those on board left many shaken.

Leaders allied to the faction have called for calm and urged supporters to remain peaceful despite the provocation.

They have also asked security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure the safety of those attending the rally.
