Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has spoken out following a tragic shooting incident, clarifying that the victim, Vincent, was not shot while a political meeting was ongoing but after the gathering had already ended.

Addressing the media, Sifuna expressed sorrow over the incident and emphasized that the intention of their meetings is to engage with citizens peacefully, not to put lives at risk.

He said it was important to correct what he described as misleading information circulating about the circumstances of the shooting.

“Vincent hakupigwa risasi kama mkutano unaendelea, alipigwa risasi kama mkutano umeisha,” Sifuna stated.

He explained that by the time the shooting occurred, the formal meeting had already concluded and leaders had finished addressing the public.

The senator added that their mission during such gatherings is to speak to wananchi about issues affecting them and to listen to their concerns.

According to him, political meetings are meant to strengthen democracy by allowing leaders and citizens to interact openly.

“Sisi nia yetu ni kuzungumza na wananchi, hatutarajii ya kwamba mtu apoteze maisha yake kwa sababu ya mikutano,” he said.

He stressed that no one should lose their life simply because they attended or were near a political event.

Sifuna called for calm among supporters and urged security agencies to conduct thorough investigations into the incident.

He noted that it was important for the truth to come out so that the victim’s family can get justice and the public can understand exactly what happened.

The shooting has sparked concern among residents and political leaders, with many questioning the safety of public gatherings.

Political rallies are common across the country, especially as leaders continue to mobilize support and discuss national issues.

However, incidents involving violence tend to raise tension and fear within communities.

Sifuna maintained that leaders must be allowed to hold meetings without fear, and citizens must feel safe attending them.

He emphasized that political competition should never turn into violence or loss of life.

He also conveyed condolences to Vincent’s family and friends, describing the death as painful and unfortunate.

The senator said leaders have a responsibility to ensure that their activities do not expose supporters to danger.
