Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has urged residents and leaders from the Mt. Kenya region to remain loyal to President William Ruto, saying he deserves to complete two full terms in office just like former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking during a public gathering, Waiguru emphasised the importance of honouring political promises made during past elections.

The governor reminded the audience that former President Uhuru Kenyatta served as head of state for ten years after receiving strong support from various regions across the country.

She explained that President Ruto played a key role in supporting Uhuru during his leadership and therefore deserves similar backing from the Mt. Kenya region.

“President Uhuru served 10 years, Ruto should too; as the people of the Mountain, we promised and must pay that debt,” Waiguru said, while encouraging unity among the region’s leaders and residents.

Waiguru stated that political partnerships are built on trust and commitment. According to her, when leaders and communities make political agreements, they should honour them to maintain credibility and strengthen unity.

She explained that the relationship between Mt. Kenya leaders and President Ruto was formed through mutual support, which she believes should continue in the future.

The governor also spoke about the importance of stable leadership in promoting development.

She noted that giving a president enough time in office allows them to implement projects and long-term policies that benefit citizens.

Waiguru said leadership continuity helps ensure that national development plans are completed without interruptions caused by frequent political changes.

She further encouraged residents to focus on development projects taking place in their region and across the country.

Waiguru pointed out that the government has initiated several programmes aimed at improving infrastructure, supporting businesses, and creating employment opportunities.

She said continued cooperation between national and regional leaders would help speed up these projects.

Political observers say Waiguru’s remarks reflect the ongoing political discussions within the Mt. Kenya region regarding future leadership alliances.

The region is widely considered one of Kenya’s most influential voting blocs, and its political decisions often play a major role in shaping national election outcomes.

Some supporters of the governor’s statement agree that maintaining political loyalty strengthens partnerships and promotes unity among leaders.

They argue that keeping promises made during elections builds trust between politicians and voters.

However, others believe that political support should be based mainly on performance and delivery of promises to citizens.

Waiguru, however, maintained that her message was meant to encourage unity and cooperation rather than create division.

She urged leaders from the Mt. Kenya region to work together and avoid political conflicts that could weaken their influence.

She also encouraged residents to support leaders who focus on development and national progress.
