Kalonzo Musyoka has declared that he will return to the office of Douglas Kanja on Friday with photographs that he claims identify police officers who allegedly used teargas on residents of Othaya.

While addressing supporters during a public gathering, the leader of the Wiper Democratic Movement said his team had collected visual evidence that they believe shows officers responsible for the incident.

He explained that the decision to return to the police chief’s office is aimed at pushing for accountability and ensuring justice for residents who were affected.

Kalonzo said the alleged teargas incident caused fear and confusion among residents, many of whom were not expecting such action from security officers.

He argued that citizens should be able to participate in public gatherings without being exposed to unnecessary force.

According to him, presenting the evidence directly to the police leadership will help ensure that the matter is handled openly and fairly.

The opposition leader emphasised that security agencies have a responsibility to protect citizens and maintain order without violating people’s rights.

He said police officers must remain professional when handling crowds and avoid using excessive force unless absolutely necessary.

Kalonzo added that failure to hold officers accountable could damage public trust in law enforcement institutions.

He also noted that bringing forward photographs and other evidence is part of a wider effort to ensure transparency in the handling of public security matters.

Kalonzo explained that such actions are not meant to create conflict between political leaders and police officers but rather to encourage lawful and responsible policing.

The Wiper leader further warned that incidents involving force against civilians can increase tension within communities and worsen political disagreements.

He called on authorities to carefully investigate the matter and take appropriate action if any wrongdoing is confirmed.

According to him, proper investigations will help prevent similar incidents in the future and reassure citizens that their safety is taken seriously.

The alleged events in Othaya have sparked discussions among political leaders, residents, and civil rights groups.

Some residents have reportedly expressed concern about their safety during public gatherings, saying they expect protection from law enforcement rather than confrontation.

Others have urged leaders and security agencies to work together to maintain peace while respecting democratic freedoms.

Political observers say Kalonzo’s move reflects growing pressure from opposition leaders for greater accountability in policing public events.

They note that such actions could influence national discussions about the relationship between security agencies and citizens, especially during political gatherings.
