“Here in Busia, we have come out to protect the ODM party,” Osotsi told the cheering supporters.
He said the rally was organised to remind members about the party’s values and the importance of standing firm during times of political uncertainty.
According to him, ODM has grown over the years because of strong support from ordinary citizens, and that support must not be taken for granted.
Osotsi accused President Ruto of trying to gain control of ODM through what he described as indirect political strategies.
He claimed that instead of competing openly, there were attempts to influence the party from within.
He urged party members to remain united and resist any moves that could divide them.
During his speech, Osotsi challenged the crowd to openly show their position regarding any possible cooperation between ODM and Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
“How many oppose this thing of Ruto?” he asked, a question that sparked loud cheers and applause from the supporters.
The strong response from the crowd appeared to show resistance to any alliance between the two political groups.
Osotsi said ODM has always stood as a voice for ordinary Kenyans, especially those who feel left out in leadership and decision-making.
He warned that any alliance that weakens the party’s role as a defender of wananchi could destroy the trust supporters have placed in the party over the years.
He insisted that major decisions affecting ODM should involve consultations with grassroots members.
The Linda Mwananchi rallies have been organised by a section of ODM leaders who aim to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence across the country.
The meetings are also meant to allow leaders to interact with supporters and hear their views on national and party matters.
Political analysts believe Osotsi’s strong remarks reflect the ongoing debate within ODM about whether the party should cooperate with the government or remain firmly in the opposition.
Some leaders argue that working with the government could help push development and unity, while others believe ODM must maintain its independence to properly represent its supporters.
