“Do not be intimidated,” she told the crowd while addressing supporters. “I am ready to face anyone who wants the position.”
Her announcement has added fresh energy to the race ahead of the National Delegates Convention (NDC), which is expected to bring together party members from across the country to discuss leadership and the direction of the party.
Odinga said the party has a long history that should be protected and strengthened.
According to her, the Orange Democratic Movement has gone through many challenges over the years, including political struggles and the loss of several supporters.
“The journey has not been easy and we have lost very many people, but we still have a long way to go,” she said.
She noted that despite the difficulties, party members have remained determined to push forward and continue building the movement.
For her, stepping forward to seek the deputy party leader position is part of that effort to keep the party strong and active.
Odinga also spoke about the role played by supporters in Nairobi, saying the capital city has been at the centre of many political demonstrations over the years.
She pointed out that many protests and political activities have often taken place in Nairobi, showing how committed the city’s supporters are to the party’s cause.
“All this time, the people of Nairobi have been protesting,” she said. “There are no protests in upcountry; the demonstrations have largely been in Nairobi.”
Her remarks highlighted the importance of Nairobi in the party’s political activities and the support it has received from residents of the city.
Supporters who attended the gathering welcomed her decision to run for the leadership position.
Many said they believe she represents a younger generation that can help shape the future of the party while still respecting its history.
Political observers say her entry into the race reflects growing calls within the party for younger leaders to take on bigger responsibilities.
At the same time, they note that the deputy party leader position is influential and could shape key political decisions within the party.
