Lekek Chebii has resigned from the board of Nairobi Hospital, citing personal reasons and the inability to devote sufficient time and attention to her duties as a board member.

In a statement released on Thursday, Chebii said her decision was driven by personal commitments that require her full focus.

“I have served on the board with dedication, but I cannot continue to provide the time and attention required as a member,” she said.

Chebii’s resignation comes amid a period of challenges at the hospital, including governance scrutiny and financial oversight concerns.

The board has faced criticism over management decisions, staff relations, and operational transparency in recent months.

Despite the pressures, Chebii noted that her decision is entirely personal and not a reflection of the hospital’s administration or operations.

She thanked her fellow board members and hospital staff for their support during her tenure.

During her time on the board, Chebii was involved in strategic planning, oversight of hospital policies, and guidance on service delivery.

Her contributions included participating in discussions on financial management, infrastructure development, and patient care initiatives.

Chebii encouraged the hospital to continue focusing on improving healthcare services and ensuring the welfare of patients and staff alike.

“Nairobi Hospital remains an important institution, and I wish the board and management continued success in delivering quality healthcare,” she said.

Hospital management acknowledged Chebii’s resignation and expressed gratitude for her service.

They noted that her input had been valuable in guiding the institution through strategic and operational challenges.

The board is expected to begin the process of identifying a replacement to fill the vacant position, ensuring continuity in governance and oversight.

Nairobi Hospital, one of Kenya’s leading private healthcare institutions, relies on an active and committed board to maintain standards of service, compliance, and strategic planning.

Observers say Chebii’s resignation highlights the demanding nature of governance roles in major healthcare institutions, where board members must balance personal commitments with the responsibilities of oversight.

Effective governance is critical to ensuring transparency, operational efficiency, and patient trust.

Chebii concluded her statement by urging continued collaboration between the board, hospital management, and stakeholders to safeguard the institution’s reputation and ensure sustainable growth.

She emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards in medical services and accountability in leadership.

The resignation adds to a series of changes in the hospital’s governance structure, reflecting the dynamic nature of private healthcare management in Kenya.

As the board seeks a replacement, attention will be on how it continues to navigate operational challenges while maintaining excellence in patient care.
