The Linda Mwananchi faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has called on Kenyans to register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a move that aligns with the trending “Niko kadi” slogan, the faction’s leaders said the only way to achieve better governance is by ensuring that citizens turn out in large numbers to register and participate in the electoral process.

Speaking at a public rally held at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa County on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the leaders, led by Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, urged young people to take the lead in the voter registration exercise.

They emphasised that increased voter turnout would play a key role in shaping the country’s leadership in the next election cycle.

The leaders also criticised the current administration under President William Ruto, describing it as oppressive and responsible for the challenges facing Kenyans.

According to the leaders, registering as voters is a crucial step towards ensuring accountability and bringing about change through the ballot.

“Ili mabadiliko iwe hii Kenya, ni lazima tujisajili kama wapiga kura. Mimi niko kadi. Kura yako itakupatia afya bora, sio bora afya.

Tuko na seriklali ya upuzi na usherati, kwahivyo naomba mchukue kura ili Ruto aende nyumbani asubuhi,” Babu said.

The remarks were met with applause from supporters who attended the rally, many of whom echoed the call for increased civic participation.

The gathering formed part of a broader mobilisation campaign by the Linda Mwananchi faction aimed at strengthening its support base across the country.

Leaders at the event stressed the importance of youth involvement in the democratic process, noting that young people make up a significant portion of the population and have the power to influence the outcome of elections.

They urged those who have not yet registered to do so at the earliest opportunity, saying that failure to participate in the process could deny them a voice in determining the country’s future.

The call comes at a time when political activities are gradually gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 polls, with different groups seeking to mobilise support and shape public opinion.

Political observers say such campaigns are likely to intensify in the coming months as parties and factions position themselves for the next election.
