Police officer attached to Kakamega Central Police Station has lost his life following a tragic road accident along the busy Kakamega–Mumias Highway.

The officer was reportedly driving a police vehicle when it was involved in a head-on collision with a speeding truck that was transporting sugarcane.

The accident, which occurred along the highway, left both vehicles badly damaged and brought traffic to a temporary standstill as bystanders and emergency responders rushed to the scene.

According to initial reports, the impact of the crash was severe, leading to fatal injuries for the officer.

Efforts to save him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck is said to have survived the crash, though details about his condition have not been fully disclosed.

Witnesses described the incident as shocking, noting that the truck appeared to be moving at high speed before the collision.

Some said the police vehicle had little chance to avoid the crash, given the sudden nature of the incident.

Following the accident, officers from nearby stations arrived at the scene to manage the situation and begin preliminary investigations.

The wreckage of both the police vehicle and the truck was later towed to Kakamega Central Police Station for further inspection as part of the inquiry into what exactly caused the crash.

The body of the deceased officer was taken to the Kakamega County Referral Funeral Parlour, where it is expected to undergo a post-mortem examination.

The process will help determine the exact cause of death and provide more details for the ongoing investigation.

The incident has left fellow officers and members of the community in shock, as they come to terms with the sudden loss.

Colleagues described the officer as dedicated to his duty, and his death is seen as a big blow to the station and the wider police service.

Road accidents involving heavy trucks have remained a major concern in many parts of the country, especially along highways used to transport agricultural produce such as sugarcane.

Drivers have often been urged to exercise caution, maintain safe speeds, and observe traffic rules to prevent such tragedies.

Authorities are now expected to investigate the circumstances leading to the crash, including whether speeding or other factors may have contributed to the accident.

The findings will help determine responsibility and guide any further action.
